bio:
Born and raised in Miami, Lazaro Casanova is no stranger to House music. His upbringing consisted of various unique music backgrounds, primarily Afro-Cuban music.
First noted as the resident at the Revolver party in Miami. The party lasted for seven years, with Lazaro Casanova providing an eclectic mix of music on a weekly basis. During his run with the party, Casanova consistently pushed towards the dance music spectrum, one song at a time. Revolver hosted great WMC parties with many talented artists ranging from Dj Hell to Justice, Felix Da Housecat to Dj T. These were prime networking opportunities for Lazaro Casanova.
In the summer of 2006 Lazaro Casanova was invited on his first tour. He joined Juan Maclean and Mstrkrft on a bus tour across Canada. During this tour Casanova picked up a few tips and tricks and started producing his own music. He also witnessed Juan Maclean still playing on records, still playing House classics. This may explain why during his earlier sets, Lazaro Casanova never played a full-on Electro set. Instead, he would blend his sets with House grooves and even a bit of tougher Techno that appealed to the new generation of club-goers.
Casanova's production also started gathering attention. His first single, Venganza, was supported and played by the Swedish House Mafia, Felix Da Housecat, Richard Vission, and various others. During this time Lazaro Casanova shared the stage with various artists including, Boys Noize, Steve Angello, Dirty South, Fedde Le Grand, Benny Benassi, among others. At the same time he became a regular on tour with Mstrkrft, sometimes confused as an outside third member. Venganza was also featured on two essential mixes on Pete Tong's Radio 1 show (Mstrkrft and Steve Aoki).
It became a necessity for Lazaro Casanova to branch off and create his own identity, more importantly, create his own sound. Unfortunately (or fortunately), he headed in a direction that steered away from the Electro trend that was currently happening. At this time Lazaro Casanova became very comfortable in his new production that embraced that Afro-Cuban sound he grew up with. What spawned from this was a good balance of Techno and House with a very small Tribal underlying. During this time he has shared stages with Seth Troxler, Matthew Dear, Shaun Reeves, Mark Knight, to name a few.
In November of 2008, Lazaro Casanova launched his own label imprint named, petFood. The first single called Los Tambores, sold extremely well on Beatport. It is a proven dance floor hit with massive hand drums, an unheard of bassline, and drops that make any dance floor erupt into frenzies. Los Tambores brought Casanova his first licensing deal when Oscar G (Murk) picked up the track for an upcoming Club Space CD/DVD.
Later in 2008, Casanova released Hell Cab, which was supported and played by Nic Fanciulli. As a matter of fact, Fanciulli liked the track so much that he signed a full vocal version of Hell Cab to his own label (Saved Records). The track is due out before summer of 2009 with remixes from other artists. It is expected to do well for the summer Ibiza season. Nic Fanciulli also played Hell Cab in his last Essential Mix on Pete Tong's Radio 1 show.
2009 has proven to be a breakthrough year for Lazaro Casanova. He has recently completed a remix for the Juan Maclean that is due out soon on DFA Records. The remix package also includes remixes from Marc Romboy and Surkin. Although not yet released, this remix has already seen praises from various Dj's who are currently playing it. Notably, they appreciate the nostalgic classic piano house sound Casanova has delivered on this remix.
Lazaro Casanova also signed to a new label out of Miami started between friends, named Three-O-Five. It is a collaborative label between Oscar G (Murk) and Stryke (Plastic City). Casanova will be delivering a song on each E.P. for the label which will also include from Oscar G & Ralph Falcon (Murk) and Stryke. This has proven that Casanova can release music under several different outlets ranging between the House and Techno scenes.
Not only can he produce but Casanova delivers unforgettable Dj performances. Because of his fine balance of rhythm sections of House music and dark elements of Techno, he is able to please both the casual crowd (including the ladies) and the more critical hardcore crowd. Ofcourse this means he has set up a few regular gigs aside from his random tour schedule. He is a regular at Club Aura in Monterrey Mexico, where he holds a residency and plays an infamous 7 hour set, which ends at about 11 am. Aura is responsible for many great acts coming to Monterrey including, Matthew Dear, Seth Troxler, Magda, Richie Hawtin and more. In Toronto Casanova usually graces Guvernment and last time even got down at Comfort Zone, a dark sketchy afterhours were he started his set at 9 am. About every 2 months Casanova returns to the Juarez/El Paso area where he plays sold out shows of 1200+ people. His last visit in El Paso was a 6 hour set that kept people dancing from beginning to end. It is already referred to as "the rave of the year"....but the party was only in February! In Los Angeles, Casanova is a regular at Vanguard. His last visit at Vanguard was with Mark Knight for the launch of the Toolroom Knights residency.
During Winter Music Conference in Miami expect to see Lazaro Casanova play some all-star studded reputable parties including the Techno Terrace at Karu&Y for the AMOnly party. He has also been invited to play the Made in Miami event at Club Space with Oscar G, Ralph Falcon, Cedric Gervais, Behrouz and Stryke.
Lazaro Casanova has traveled a long way to find his unique sound. It clearly shows in both his production and DJ sets. At only 22, some say Casanova has accomplished 10 years worth of work in only 2 years. Wherever the music may take him next, he is ready to break down genre barriers. But one important key factor remains, the music always has to have a good groove.
